Girls U16s: Samphires 0 v 2 Dingle (0:1 HT)
Tough luck on the 16s last weekend when we lost out 2 nil to Dingle in an even enough contest. Dingle had the edge on us in front of goals though and 1 in each half decided the contest. Well done to all our girls who never gave up.
Boys U15s: Killarney Ath 3 v 0 Samphires
We made the journey last Saturday to Killarney to play an understrength Killarney Athletic team in the cup. We had a bad day as we never got into the game until the last quarter and by then the game was over. We conceded 2 in the first half and the third at the beginning of the second by a sharper team. We didn’t defend well in most parts of the pitch, lacking in intensity to close our opponents down. On the other side of the ledger we did keep going till the end, creating a few chances in the last quarter which unfortunately didn’t yield any goals. So it’s on now to the Shield competition. Thanks too to all the parents who came to the match to support our team.
Girls U13s: Samphires 0 v 0 Park
Fenit Samphires took on Park at home last Thursday evening in the U13 Premier League. Both sides were evenly matched with defences on top. We came close on two occasions to take the lead but it was going to take something special to trouble the Park goalkeeper. We defended quite well throughout the game and executed some very quick counter attacks but were just short to deliver the final shot to take the lead. Final score: Samphires 0 Park 0. It was very satisfying to see this young team compete at this level considering 7 out of the 11 players were u12. Onwards and upwards for these girls as we sit mid table.
Boys U13s: Samphires 6 v 1 Castleisland C (Scorers: Mikey Corridan (4), Dara Harty, OG)
Once again Samphires U13’s won despite a poor first half performance. We were playing the Castleisland U12 team who were playing up a year but who pressed aggressively in the first 20 minutes. Our players over played the ball at times and there was little pass and move on our side. Despite this we went 1 up when a cross from the left was turned in for an own goal. Castleisland fought back and scored a good goal after the bumpy pitch caused a mix up in our defence. We went back in front through Mikey Corridan who scored two. 3-1 at half-time.
2nd half we were better and started to pass the ball more. Mikey scored two more and Dara Harty added a sixth as Castleisland tired a little. We need to work on our pressing and in particular getting the ball wide and switching the play. Best for Fenit Evan Lyons at left back.
Boys U11s: SamphiresU11s
The U11 Green team played Castleisland B in their quarter final of the shield on Saturday evening in Castleisland. Both teams put on a great display of football. Fenit progress to the semi finals…well done all. Thanks too to Castleisland AFC for hosting.
