Samphires U11’s played Camp last Saturday at the KDL all weather pitch in Tralee. Having being unbeaten in our last three games, confidence was high but we could not maintain our unbeaten run against a Camp side that were allowed space and time on the ball
On a cold day both teams took a while to warm up and get going. With a fairly evenly balanced first twenty minutes where both teams seemed to cancel each other out, Fenit finally found a way through the Camp defence with Rón O Neill scoring after some good pressure from our boys. We began to pin Camp inside their own half and we started to show our style of play with some fine passing and link up play and had plenty of opportunities to extend our lead, which we could not take and the score at half time remained 1-0.
We started the second half at a slower speed which allowed Camp back into the game and swiftly they were level. This pushed us on and we were unlucky with a few attempts not to find the net, especially John Joe Hanafin’s effort from distance that rattled the crossbar. But from there on we began to struggle and Camp made it two from some bad positional play from our side.
Camp pushed on and were unlucky not to score more as Oran Murphy made some outstanding saves to keep us in touching distance. But unfortunately before the game ended Camp scored their third goal to finish the game 3-1.
