Happy Christmas to all… see ye again in the New Year.
We held our Annual Christmas Table Quiz in the Tankard last Friday night. Again it was a great success, as Mary and her super team dished out the questions to the many tables in attendance. A big thanks to Eilish, who was called upon late in the day to be the quiz master and did it effortlessly. Thanks to Charlotte and Mary for organising the questions. Thanks to everyone who came to support the event which has always been one of our main fundraisers for the year. Thanks also to those who weren’t able to attend but made a contribution to the club anyway. We missed one or two through illness and we wish them a speedy recovery. It was nice to see our senior players there in numbers and also so many of our coaches who are already giving so much of their time to the various teams. Thanks to all who gave us a spot prize. It never ceases to amaze, the generosity of people towards the club. Finally another word of thanks to Mary and the Kelly family, for not just running the event on the night, but for organising it from start to finish over the past few months. Have a great New Year….back training next week!

Girls U15s: Castleisland 2 v 2 Samphires (Scorers Erin Harty(2))
The early morning kick off didn’t seem to suit our players who started this match sluggishly and found themselves 1-0 down at half time to a lively Castleisland side. It was only when we conceded a second goal with twenty minutes to go that the inevitable fight and spirit of theses girls showed and 2 goals from Erin Harty had us on the front foot in the closing minutes and we were unlucky not to nick it on the end. As always the never say die attitude of these players came to the fore in what was a very entertaining game. Thanks to Castleisland for hosting.
Boys U15s: Listowel Celtic 3 v 1 Samphires (Scorer Conor Finn (Pen))
Our 15s lost out narrowly last weekend away to a strong Listowel outfit. It was an even enough game throughout with chances at a premium. We went 1 down close to half time after we lost possession too easily near our box and our transition to defence wasn’t quick enough to repair the damage. We conceded a second 15 minutes into the second half by a long ball which again we failed to cut out. The lads came back though and Conor scored from a pen after man of the match for us Evan Diggin was taken down. It was a frantic finish with both teams having a small number of half chances but Listowel scored with 5 to go to give them the victory. It was quite an improved effort by us after a number of disappointments recently, and we saw the work that has been put in at training recently come to the fore to give quite a competitive performance.
U14 Girls: Samphires 3 V 0 Iveragh

Boys U14s: Park B 0 v 2 Samphires A
Girls U13s: Samphires 4 v 2 LB Rovers (Scorers: Hannah Barrett-Neziri)
Samphires U13 girls played with fierce might and determination against a strong LB Rovers yesterday in Fenit. It was a hard fought game with Hannah Barrett-Neziri scoring all 4 goals for the victorious Fenit Samphires. There were some lovely assists from Aoife Carey, Sadhbh O’Donnell, Hannah Redican and Ella Clarkin- Sayers. Player of the game Aoife Carey.

Boys U13s: Samphires B 1 v 3 LB Rovers B

Boys U12s: Samphires B 4 v 1 Listowel Celtic B (Scorers: Padraig Whelan, Cian O’Sullivan, Ruadhan Lawlor, Luke McCann)
Our Division 1 team ended 2024 with a solid win at home against Listowel Celtic B. On a blustery morning in Fenit the boys had their first league fixture in a few weeks. It took a few minutes to settle in to the game, but Fenit opened the scoring after 13 minutes when Padraig Whelan finished from a cross from Cian O’Sullivan on the right. Samphires had all the attack in the remainder of the first half but couldn’t break down the Listowel defence. The score remained 1-0 at half time. We played into the wind in the second half and after 9 minutes doubled the lead with a great strike from Cian O’Sullivan from a pass from Abja Torres. 2 more goals from Ruadhan Lawlor (50m) and Luke McCann (55m) ended the fixture. With 2 minutes to go Listowel were awarded a free kick just outside our penalty area. A powerful shot aided by a strong breeze ended up in the back of the Samphires net and a deserved goal for Listowel. The final score, 4-1 to Samphires. A fantastic first half to the season with 5 wins from 6 games. Well done to all the boys and not forgetting the managers too. Happy Christmas and we’ll see you all again in January.
Boys U12s: Mastergeeha A 1 v 4 Samphires A
