FAI Junior Cup Samphires A 3 v 3 Ballingary AFC (3 – 5 after pens) (Scorers: Des McCarthy (2), JJ Prior)

A cracking FAI cup tie got off to the perfect start as the McCarthy brothers Ger and Des linked brilliantly with Des finishing off the move within the first minute. We were then pegged back and found ourselves 2 1 down before Des levelled things again scoring from a Cian Mckenna corner to make it 2 2 at half time.Ballingarry got themselves back in front but again not for long as JJ Prior finished from close range after Richard Burke made a nusiance of himself at the back post. The game headed into extra time as the game got stretched and unfortunately we couldn’t put away a couple of half chances that fell our way. Ballingarry came out on top after penalties in what was a great contest from start to finish. Plenty of positives to take from what was our biggest test so far this year.

KDL Division 4 Listowel Celtic B v Samphires B Listowel, 11.30am (Scorers: Luke Murphy(2), Michael O’Brien, Oran Murphy)

Fenit Samphire’s Senior B team bagged three more valuable league points with another very impressive away win on Sunday. Samphire’s were dominant throughout and Luke Murphy opened the scoring after only 5 minutes following a goalmouth scramble. Big Luke coolly finished again just five minutes later, to make it 2 nil to the visitors. ‘Mixer’ add a third and his third of the season, after 25 minutes, finishing well, following a full length of pitch Fenit counter attack to put daylight between the sides. With a deadly free kick, Oran Murphy added a fourth on the stroke of half-time. Into the 2nd half, Fenit couldn’t add to their tally as they found the home keeper in truly inspired form, denying the visitors a fifth goal, time and again. David O’Brien did hit the upright from a huge distance, before Listowel themselves grabbed one back with an unstoppable pile driver 10 minutes from the end to put a gloss on the final result.

U14 Girls Div 1 Killarney Athletic B 6 v 5 Samphires (Scorers: Erin Harty(3), Fiadh Nealan(2))

An exciting goal fest of a match which unfortunately we came out the wrong side of. Fenit played some nice football at times with a hat trick from Erin Harty and 2 goals from Fiadh Nelan being the highlights. However we were undone by some great finishes from Killarney who played very well on the day.

U14 Boy’s Division 1 Samphires 8 v 1 Tralee Dynamos A (Scorers: Evan Neary(2), Cody Deady(2), Shay Gilligan(2), Jamie Hussey, Josh Ennis)

The 14s had a comfortable win against Dynamos last Saturday in Fenit. We were on top for all the game and though the scoreline flatters us, there was only going to be 1 winner. Well done to the team and their coaches.

Boys U13s vs Aisling Anacotty October 2024

U13 Boys National Cup Round 1 Aisling Anacotty (3) 1 V 5 Samphires (Scorers: Scott Akinyemi(3), Conor James, Conor McCarthy)

Well done to Mike and his team who travelled to a hotbed of soccer in Limerick and came away with the spoils in a rearranged fixture from last weekend. It was a very enjoyable first round national cup fixture away to Aisling Annacotty where we came out 5 -1 winners with hat-trick from Scott Akinyemi and one each from Conor James and Conor McCarthy. All played really well and some very good ball.  We would like it noted the sportsmanship shown to us by Aisling Annacotty not just on the day of the match, but also in the previous week. We had home advantage in the original fixture, but the fixture wasn’t played due to the orange wind warning. The rules state the in such a situation, the fixture is reversed and Aisling Annacotty very generously offered to play us this week in Fenit, but the powers that be didn’t allow it. We extend our thanks to them for their generous offer and wish them well for the rest of the season.

U12s vs Castleisland Oct 24

U12 Girls Castleisland 6 v 2 Samphires (Scorers: Caoimhe Madden, Fiadh McElligott)

Our under 12 girls fought hard against a strong Castleisland team last weekend. We were up against after the first minute when we conceded. Heads never dropped and we kept at it. The final score was 6-2 to Castleisland. Their sixth goal came in the last minute! Our goals came from Caoimhe Madden (inside her own half!) and Fiadh McElligott was on the score sheet once again.

U12s vs Ballyhar Oct 2024

U12 Boys Samphires B 5 v 2 Ballyhar A (Scorers: Cian O’Sulivan(2), Eoin Gilligan, Jack Buckley, Padraig Whelan)

Our Division 1 team made it 3 wins from 3 starts in Fenit this evening with a convincing win over Ballyhar Dynamos. With 9 minutes on the clock Cian O’Sulivan made a solo run down the left wing and finished with a fine strike to the Ballyhar net. The lead was doubled after 15 minutes when Eoin Gilligan pounced from close range following some sustained pressure from the Fenit attack. Jack Buckley made it 3-0 just before half time when he broke through the Ballyhar defense and coolly finished to the net. A super save from Luke Falvey late in the first half kept the score at 3-0 at the break. Ballyhar got one back 6 minutes into the second half with the aid of a deflected shot which looped over the keeper into the net. The three goal cushion was restored after 12 minutes however, when Padraig Whelan sent a free kick into the top corner from outside the box, a goal which is sure to be a contender for goal of the season. Minutes later Cian O’Sullivan scored our 5th goal of the game (and his second) with a fine strike from outside the box beating the Ballyhar keeper. Ballyhar scored a second goal late on to make the final score Samphires B 5 – Ballyhar A 2. Another great performance from this team who are improving week on week. Keep up the good work boys.

U12 Boy’s Division 2 Dingle B 7 v 0 Samphires C

We were well beaten in this match with a much depleted squad. We hope going forward that we will have our full squad available as it is a deflating experience for all concerned if we are missing a lot of players for any match.
