Women’s Recreational Soccer: Great turnout at our Women’s Recreational Soccer session last night. This session is open to all and is a great fun way to get fit. If interested, just turn up on Thursdays at 7.45pm at the Ardfert Recreational Centre Astro pitch.
Seniors: Samphires 1 v 1 Tralee Dynamos B (Scorer: Ger McCarthy)
Our seniors played their first league game of 2024 in Ardfert last weekend. Dynamos started with the majority of possession but we defended well and kept them in their own half for most of the opening 45 minutes. We looked most threatening when we played the ball wide to our wingers and full backs, creating a couple of half chances but we couldn’t convert. We went 1-0 down when we conceded from a close range free kick.
We started the second half well and put more pressure on our opponents when they were in possession. Again we created a few chances but didn’t hit the net until the returning Ger Mac hit a long range effort that arrowed into the top corner. From then on, both teams went looking for a winner but couldn’t find one and a draw was probably a fair result in the end.
Boys U15s: Samphires 1 v 1 Inter Kenmare (Scorer: Mikey Corridon)
A tight match in Fenit last Saturday ended a draw as both teams served a great game for the supporters. Both teams had periods of dominance but neither could force a winner. Well done to all the players on a cold and blustery day.
Boys U14s: Samphires 7 v 2 Camp (Scorers: Conor Finn 3 (MOTM), Gary Parker (2), Conor O’Sullivan (2))
Our U14s returned to action last weekend for the first time in 2024 and did so in some style recording a 7-2 home victory against Camp. This was without doubt the teams best performance of the season playing some really good football throughout. Everybody can be pleased with the quality on display, and hopefully, this can be the standard produced for the remainder of the season. Scorers on the day Conor Finn 3 (MOTM), Gary Parker 2 and Captain Conor O’Sullivan 2.
Boys U13s: Samphires 2 v 3 Park B (Scorer Evan Neary)
Our 13s lost narrowly away to Park B last weekend in a match that could have gone either way. We were 2 up at half-time through Evan Neary and really should have been more. In the second half our opponents came out all guns blazing and we were very lucky not to concede. When it seemed we had weathered the storm, a shot from distance looped it’s way into the top of the net. The game settled after this into a pattern of the Park on the attack through the centre and us on the counter. Both teams had chances but they got a penalty with 10 to go which was 50-50. After this, both teams attacked for the winner but it wasn’t to be for us. On the flip side it was a great performance from our team and hopefully we will push on from here.
Girls U12s: Park 2 v 0 Samphires
Our U12 Girls had their first game of 2024 on 6th January away to Park where we were unlucky to lose 2-0. Fenit created the best chances of the 1st half, but went in at half time level at 0-0. The second half was very competitive, but it was Park that got the important first goal. As the full time whistle approached, Fenit threw caution to the wind in search of an equalizer, but Park caught us on the break to score at late second goal to finish the game. Best for Fenit were Aoife Hogan and Ella Sayers, and the team was captained by Hannah Redican.
