U8s Boys:

We went to Camp to play a few friendly games last weekend. We had two teams who played two games each of 15 minutes per half. Camp’s home advantage helped them to a early lead in the first two games. Tremendous efforts from the Fenit Samphires boys particularly the Byrne & Egan lads who locked down the defence, held Camp at bay. We fought our way back into the game with fantastic interplay and great passing especially from Cillian O’Brien, Conor Nolan & Eoghan O’Reilly. But unfortunately we just never managed to put the ball in the net and lost the first two games. The boys never dropped their heads though, and  attacked from the beginning of the second set of games. Diarmuid Murphy, Daniel Fegan and Caelan Tuite worked tirelessly to help Samphires into early leads. But Camp came back into the game but good defending from Ronan Kirby and goalkeeping from Luke O’Carroll saw off their challenge. Fenit Samphires won both of the second set of games, leaving us with two wins and two losses. Special thanks to Camp Juniors for inviting us to their wonderful facility, and we will see them again in the new year.

U14s Girls: Samphires 3 v 3 Camp (Scorers)
First home game for the U14 girls was against Camp on a very cold afternoon. Fenit started very well and began to pass to ball and worked some good goal chances. Fenit’s first goal was a superb effort from Saoirse O’Donovan who finished into the top corner of the net. Soon Fenit went two ahead when Muireann O’Brien finished first time following some clever handiwork by Orlaith McKenna. Camp were never out of this game with our defence having to work hard to keep them at bay with Ciara Dowling playing particularly well a right back. Camp got one back just before half time from a corner. In the 2nd half Camp got back into it with two goals but the Fenit girls’ heads did not drop and we kept pressing and another goal from Saoirse O’Donovan levelled matters.
A draw was a fair result and again the team is improving week on week. We had a squad of 17 girls today on a very cold afternoon which is great to see as was the great support from the sideline.
U14s: Castleisland 0 v 4 Samphires  (Scorers Eddie McCarthy (2), Robert Monaghan, Bobby O’Connor)
The 14s continued on their winning ways last weekend with a comprehensive victory away to Castleisland. We drew the home fixture a few months ago and this result shows the improvement the team has made since. Well done to all the players and the management. 2 players to especially note on the day were Billy Walsh and Danny Jeffers.
U16s : Samphires 1 v 1 Killarney Celtic ‘B’ (Scorer Eoghan Higgins)
Fenit U16s drew 1-1 at home to Killarney Celtic B. Fenit, led by captain Dara Heim, started the game well and were piling on the pressure on Killarney, creating many goal scoring chances. Unfortunately we found ourselves 0-1 down at half-time as we conceded a free a few minutes before the half ended. Fenit approached the second in a similar manner to the first, creating lots of chances. A goal looked inevitable and the boys were rewarded as Eoghan Higgins scored to level the game with 15 minutes to go. Both sides had chances to win the game near the end but it was not to be and the game ended one goal a piece.
