A busy weekend for the club with quite a lot of matches played.

Seniors (Munster Junior Cup): Tralee Dynamos 5 v 2 Samphires (Scorers Pa McCarthy, Darragh O’ Brien(pen))
We started brightly away to Tralee Dynamos last weekend but gave away a penalty after 10 mins which they converted. Things got worse soon after when we conceded another penalty and fell 2-0 behind. We picked ourselves up after that and dominated the rest of the half pulling a goal back when Pa McCarthy found the net but things got harder for us early in the second half when we were reduced to 10 men. This stretched us at the back and Dynamos grabbed another following a good break away. We pushed hard to get back into the game but weren’t creative enough to break down a Dynamos team that was happy to sit deep. We were given a lifeline when we won a penalty of our own which Darragh O’ Brien converted. Dynamos then lost 2 men to red cards but we still couldn’t create enough to grab a goal. Our opponents grabbed another 2 goals late in the game as we lost our shape while we pushed to get something out of the game.
U17: Ballyheigue 4 v 0 Samphires
The 17s had a tough day last Saturday losing away to a superior Ballyheigue team on a score of 4-0.
U15: Samphires 1 v Killorglin ‘B’ 3 (Scorer Niall Cassidy)
Two early goals by Killorglin gave them a 2 goal advantage in the first half.  Fenit pushed on in the second half with Fenit having most of the chances some coming close. Killorglin scored from a break with Fenit following up a few minutes later with a well taken Niall Cassidy goal. It’s important that the team redouble their efforts on the training pitch during the week and focus on the next game in 2 weeks time.
U13: Killorglin ‘B’ 2 v 2 Samphires (Scorers Oisin McGibney, Billy Doyle)
We drew away last weekend against a determined Killorglin team last weekend in our 4th game of the league. We probably should have been a few goals to the good at half time but could easily have lost it in the end. The game swung both ways and a draw was a fair result overall. We were hot and cold for the game with our passing either being excellent and we created chances or else we gave it away too easily giving Kilorglin chances to get at us. Overall it was quite an entertaining game with David Chute, Billy Walsh, Billy Doyle, Josh Elvins and Tiernan O’Sullivan being among our best players on the day.
U11: Dingle Bay Rovers 6 v 5Samphires  (Scorers Jaden Deedy (3), Cian McKenna (2))
Fenit Samphires U11’s played away to Dingle for the 2nd match in the league. It was an overcast day but the pitch was in very good condition allowing for free flowing football.
Both sides played a very defensive start trying to see what the opposing team were bringing to this fixture. Both were evenly matched and traded goals to leave both sides level 2-2 at half time.
The rain started to come in the 2nd half and both sides started to attack and opened up the game up. Both side traded a goal to leave the sides level before Fenit started to play some very decisive passing and open up Dingle twice on the counter to Fenit leading 5-3. With only 5 minutes to go it looked all over but the fitness levels from Dingle and substitutes told in the last 5 minutes. Dingle easily got behind the Fenit defence scoring three unanswered goal to clinch the game in the last moments. Fenit will have learned a lot from this game and with a bigger squad will prove tougher opposition as the year progresses.
Girls U12s:
Our U12s girls team were to play Killorglin in Fenit last Saturday but the game was called off the day before. We played a friendly between our 12s and 14s girls teams instead and again improving levels of skill were on show – keep it up girls.
