U14 – Kerry Cup – Fenit Samphires 4 v 2 Inter Kenmare

Well done to the 14s last Saturday on a beautiful day in Fenit where we just about got past table-toppers Inter Kenmare. The first half was even with us playing against the breeze and we had to be resolute in our defending at all times to keep it scoreless up to half-time. The second half opened up completely when Jerome Daly volleyed home to give us the lead only for us to surrender it immediately early in the half. Christopher Nolan scored 2 long range frees in the middle of the half to give us a 2 goal lead but with 10 left Kenmare scored a deserved second time. It was helter skelter then to the whistle but Alif Hossain sealed it for us after running in behind their defence where he latched onto a tremendous through ball to score. All the squad got game time and each did their bit. In particular Paddy Walsh, Eoghan Walsh, Eddie McCarthy, Cian Cearney, Jerome Daly, Lorcan Ryan, Tommy Burns, Adam Doyle, Daragh Yeates, James Baxter and Ciaran O’Shea all did very well.

U13 – Kerry Cup – Listowel Celtic 3 v 6 Fenit Samphires

Saturday morning our u13s travelled to Listowel, which at first seemed to be a level enough encounter with both teams having early chances. The deadlock was broken with great midfield play from Eddie McCarthy to set Bobby O’Connor away to open his account for the day. It turned out to be an impressive display from Bobby as he went on to complete a hat trick and claim the man of the match glory. We finished the half 3-1 ahead and quickly restarted the second half with another quick goal coming from Robert Monaghan. Listowel then began to come into the game and quickly took advantage of some slack defending to earn themselves a penalty, which the player took well and stuck it beyond Keith O’Mahony in goal. Keith was called into action many more times and pulled off some fantastic saves to keep our 2 goal cushion intact.

The save of the game came from the Listowel keeper who bravely came out to stop a charging Eddie McCarthy from scoring and also keeping his team in the game. He suffered an injury from his save and unfortunately had to be replaced. We quickly got back on track after a lengthy delay and soon scored our 5th goal coming from Eddie McCarthy which he deserved completely as again he put in another powerful display in midfield. Our defensive game was impressive too considering three of our regular back line were missing but nevertheless Listowel found a way through for their third and final goal before Tómas Godley slotted home our 6th from close range. Overall it was a good performance from our boy’s who have one game remaining in this year’s league.

Team – Keith O Mahony, Rón O’Neill, Ben Donellan, Ruairi Burns, David Dineen, Eddie McCarthy, Dylan Ryan, Bobby O’Connor, Oran Murphy, Robert Monaghan, Tony Smyth and Tómas Godley.

Footnote: Congratulations to David Murphy, Sean Higgins, Gordon Burrowes and Antoin Stanton who were all part of the winning squad who won the prestigious Quarry Cup in UCC last week with Sean scoring the winner in the final – good to see our lads still competing with the best of them.
