U18s Out Of Munster Youth Cup

SamphiresLogoGreenOur 18s bowed out of the Munster Youth Cup in Little Island, Cork against Leeside FC who are currently tied at the top of the Cork league. The score was 3-1 in the end after a great game. The Cork side bossed the first half with their crisp passing game. After 5 minutes we conceded when one of the Leeside players pounced on a rebound from a corner. We were quite unfortunate to go 2 down after 10 minutes when one of our lads was injured on the endline. Play continued and we pushed out unaware of the injury and a little dinked ball was played in behind to their waiting centre forward who duly scored. Our lads showed some character after this and we got our own game going and were rewarded when Chris Murphy, Alan McElligott and Conor Lowe combined for Conor to score. The game remained hectic to the half with us defending for much of it but it stayed 2-1 at the half. In the second half we had more possession in the game than in the first half and were able to push on at times but had to be quite careful about being caught on the counter but with Ciaran Murray in goals and a back four of David Lenihan, Ciaran Carmody, Austin Clifford and Dean Meehan defending well we kept them at bay. Conor up front was always a threat and Chris, Alan, Ed Moynihan, Cormac O’Brien and Jack Lynch in the middle worked their socks off covering off the opposition. The decisive goal came with 15 left when a shot from the edge of the box was rifled in off our crossbar. The last 15 minutes our boys tried to get one back but were unable against against a very accomplished defence and the game finished 3-1. Well done to all our the lads on the day for a very brave effort, they left nothing on the pitch. Hopefully we can continue to bring that determination into the rest of our season. Finally we would like to thank the Leeside club for the hospitality they showed us and a word of thanks too to the 3 match officials on the day.
