U18s Win At Park

SamphiresLogo_SmallOur Youth team played Park away in Tralee last weekend and came out of it as 4-2 winners after a very tough battle. We started well and had most of the play initially. Despite this it was the Park who went 1 up after 10 minutes when a pass was intercepted and in 2 touches the Park had the ball in the net. We didn’t panic however and continued to try to pass the ball despite being put under pressure in all areas of the pitch. After 20 minutes we equalised after Dean Meehan’s cross was nudged into the goal by Chris Murphy. We pushed on from here and scored after another 10 minutes when Cormac O’Brien crossed for Ed Moynihan to score. We came under pressure from here to halftime but we were comfortable in defence and maybe might have added to our total on the break. The second half continued as the first ended with the Park pushing and on 2 occasions we were lucky not to concede and have to thank Ciaran Murray in goals for keeping us ahead. After these initial incursions into our box we got our act together again and took control for 20 minutes and added 2 more goals through Chris again and sub Conor Lowe. The Park were on top for the rest of the match and got 1 back with 10 left after our defence stopped after it appeared the ball had gone wide. The opposition forwards didn’t stop though and made the most of the situation. The game finished soon after and we were very thankful to come away with 3 points against tough opponents. Well done to all the players of both teams who served up such a good contest.
