U18s Squeeze Past Dingle

SamphiresLogoGreenThe Youth team played Dingle last weekend at home in the league. We lost the reverse fixture 3 weeks ago down in Dingle and it was clear the lads were out to atone. The game followed the same pattern as the previous game with us having a good share of the ball but not efficient in the last third and our opponents gritty from start to end. We eventually scored after 30 minutes through Sean Collins from a Ciaran Carmody free kick which eluded their defence, but didn’t add to it and Dingle, like in the last game, equalised on the stroke of half-time. The second half started in whirlwind fashion with both teams trying to establish dominance and cancelling each other out. It was only in the last 20 minutes we got back on top and started to force the chances, all the time being careful not to be caught on the counter attack like a few weeks ago. Eventually with only 5 mins left, Conor Lowe pounced on a loose ball in the box to score the winner after some good work by Christopher Murphy, Eoghan McElligott and Ed Moynihan down the right. Well done to all the lads for digging out a win against a very good Dingle team, especially the lads at the back Austin Clifford, Ciaran Carmody, Alan McElligott, Dean Meehan, Jack Lynch and David Lenihan. Best wishes too to new signing Gearoid Dillane who damaged ligaments after an hour and we hope he will make a speedy recovery. Finally a very Happy Christmas to all our players and their families. Hopefully we will see you at our Annual Christmas Quiz on Wed 28th @8pm in The Tankard.
