18s Complete A Famous Double

What a year FS v KC Final-708for our Under 18 team. Won the league 3 weeks ago and last Sunday evening in Mounthawk Park, Tralee we completed the league and cup double with a 5 – 1 win against Killarney Celtic. We had the benefit of the gale in the first half and crucially we made it tell. We raced into the lead through a Bobby O’Regan scorcher from 25 yards. We continued the pressure and had narrow misses from Sean Higgins, Oisin O’Brien and Darren Chester all coming close. Eventually Oisin scored a second after another shot from Bobby cannoned off the post back to him and he made no mistake, On the stroke of half time, that man Bobby hit our third with another rasper from 30 yards. We had to face into the gale for the second half with Killarney putting on the pressure but Brian O’Regan in goals and his back 4 of Sean Donnellan, Sean Collins, Antoin Stanton and Cormac O’Brien solid. Our midfield trio of Thomas Lenihan, Luke Moynihan and Bobby all did well against strong opponents and when they got their passing going it was beautiful to watch. On the wings Darren and Oisin got through miles of work and never let their men get goal-side. Up front Sean Higgins ran his socks off and kept hassling their defence right to the end. Sean himself effectively finished the game as a contest with a 4th on 60 mins after he got behind their defence to get on the end of a through-ball from Thomas. The big pitch took it’s toll on the players and both teams emptied their benches. We introduced Austin Clifford, Conor Lowe and Christopher Murphy for the last 30 and all 3 contributed to the victory. It has been a feature of our team during the year that our subs have always improved us. Killarney deservedly pulled one back from a free but we quickly notched a 5th through Conor Lowe to keep the gap at 4. It finished like this and there were great scenes at the end as Thomas Lenihan received the Jimmy Falvey Memorial Youth Cup on behalf of the club. We would like to thank Killarney Celtic too who were magnanimous after the match and wished us well in the future. Many of their players will go on to bigger and better things. So a fabulous end for our fabulous team. They have represented the club proudly for the last 10 years and now finish their underage soccer careers as champions of the county. Hopefully we will see many of them on the senior team in the years to come and we wish all of them well no matter where the future takes them.
