Seniors Get Revenge Against Killarney Celtic

Kerry District League Premier ‘A’ – Sunday Dec 20th

Killarney Celtic-1

Fenit Samphires-2

Well done to the Senior panel last weekend who despite being down in numbers went to Killarney and beat Killarney Celtic 2-1 in a league fixture to gain revenge for our recent defeat at their hands in the Kerry area final of the Munster Junior Cup. Our scorers on the day were Oisin O’Brien and Daniel Clinton. The team has had a very good season so far so we wish them a good Christmas break and hope they come back refreshed and continue on from where they left off.

Munster Junior Cup- Kerry Area Final

Fenit Samphires-0

Killarney Celtic-2

Our seniors bowed out of the Munster Junior Cup last Friday after losing to Killarney Celtic in the Kerry Area Final. We had a massive squad for the game with 20 players turning up and hopefully we’ll keep these numbers throughout the season. Celtic started very quickly and had a goal disallowed for offside almost straight from kick off. This seemed to shock us a little bit as we allowed the opposition to control the opening exchanges. We settled into the game as the half wore on and played some good football with Bill Mullins looking dangerous as he linked up with Ger and Ryan up front. Dano and Peter were seeing a lot of the ball in midfield as we created a few chances but couldn’t hit the back of the net. To stop Killarney from playing we needed to be more aggressive when we didn’t have the ball, and Sean Allen epitomised this as he won tackle after tackle on the right wing. Unfortunately our opponents opened the scoring when we were caught on the break with a long ball and their striker finished. Up to this point our back four of Klaudio, Darren, Thomas and Chick had protected Barry in goals very well despite being under pressure. Celtic added a second before the half time whistle which made our task for the second half a lot tougher.

We made a couple of changes at half time with Pa and Darragh introduced to add some attacking intent. To be fair we dominated the ball for most of the second half but we struggled to create anything clear cut. Celtic were happy enough to soak up the pressure and tried to hit us on the break when they could. We tired as the half wore on and couldn’t find a way through our opponents defence, and introduced Rob to freshen things up. Unfortunately we failed to break through the stubborn Celtic defence and the match finished 2-0.

Congratulations to Killarney Celtic and good luck in the rest of the competition.
