Seniors Continue Good Start to the Season

Denny Premier A

Killarney Athletic-0

Fenit Samphires-2

Ger McCarthy, Ivan Parker

Our seniors traveled to Killarney and convincingly took all three points last Sunday morning. We were dominant throughout the game and could have scored more but for some good goalkeeping from the hosts. Our front four of Ivan Parker, Ger McCarthy, Sean Allen and Bill Mullins were a real handful throughout the game and it was no surprise that both Ivan and Ger got on the scoresheet. Peter was first to test the keeper though when his shot from the edge of the box was tipped over by the keeper, with Sean getting the same response minutes later. At the back we were solid throughout with Rob, Darren, Ruairi and Klaudio rarely threatened in the opening half. We took the lead with a beautiful goal as Dano slipped a pass to Bill who drew a couple of defenders before backheeling to Ger and he finished brilliantly with his left foot. We kept the pressure up throughout the half and added a second when Ivan finished from a tight angle.

Athletic pressed us a bit higher in the second half but we broke very cleverly and created a load of chances without adding to our tally. Barry Galvin was comfortable in goal during the game but was dominant in the air with some good catches and punches when called upon. We probably could have kept the ball a bit better in the second half but we did enough to close the game out comfortably. Oisin O’Brien and Thomas Phelan were introduced in the half adding some energy as we tired. Another good performance which holds a lot of promise for the rest of the season.
