Seniors Advance In Reserve Cup

Dominos Pizza Reserve Cup- Second Round

Fenit Samphires- 1

Ger McCarthy

St Brendans Park B- 0

Our seniors advanced to the next round of the Reserve Cup with a hard fought victory against a spirited Park side. Having received a walkover from Spa Road last weekend we started the game tentatively as we looked to settle into our usual passing game. We had a lot of the ball throughout the game and created a number of chances during the first half but we couldn’t convert. Our strikers, Ger and Dano, were busy as usual and made life difficult for the visitors while Ray Walsh and Tadhg Fleming attacked willingly in wide areas. Both Ger and Dano created chances early on but were unable to test the goalkeeper. At the back we were solid throughout with Darren Lynch and John Maher snuffing out any dangerous situations. Both Sean Allen and Sean Foley were working hard as they kept it tight defensively and broke forward whenever possible. We were unlucky not to be ahead at half time after creating numerous chances.

In the second half we looked a bit more settled and our central midfield pairing of Klaudio Dema and Ruairi Kelly were getting more time and space on the ball. Again we created plenty of opportunities but were struggling to find the net which seemed to give the visitors more hope of snatching the win. We eventually got the opening goal after a decent passage of play. Ruairi exchanged passes with Ray on the edge of the box before beating a defender and crossing the ball for Ger Mac to finish. Peter McCarthy and John Moran were introduced during the half as we pressed for another goal to seal the win. Unfortunately we couldn’t score again but we defended excellently throughout.

Thanks to the Park for a sporting, hard fought game.
