U16s Lose Despite Great Display

How the 16s did not come away with at least a point last weekend is a mystery. A fabulous performance against a good team ended in a 2-1 loss for us. We started with Ciaran Carmody in goal (for the injured Brian O’Regan) but after 20 mins it was apparent that Sean Donnellan in midfield had a leg injury and the 2 switched positions. The first half was even enough with both teams having their periods of domination. It was 1 all at the half, our scorer being Christopher Murphy having being put through by Conor Lowe. The Ballyhar goal came after we failed to clear properly from a corner. Ballyhar forced a number of corners at the start of the second half and like the first half they scored again from one of these. After this our lads took over the game and we forced many chances but failed to convert. Cormac O’Brien and Conor Lowe both hit the bar with geat efforts and there were many melees in their box but the ball never fell kindly for us to score. We got in behind their defence on numerous occasions but the ensuing crosses either went wide or were cleared by a game Ballyhar defence. This is a part of the game we will have to improve in training. The last kick of the game fell to man of the match Ciaran Murray but his shot was inches wide. So a 2-1 defeat but we can be happy that the team is progressing well. Well done to the lads who all gave their best.
