Our seniors kept their great league form going with a hard fought win away to Inter Kenmare. The pitch was in awful condition with more than a few potholes for the players to avoid. Without our regular goalkeeper it was left to Tadhg Fleming to fill in between the posts, which he did superbly. To their credit Kenmare played some decent football and we struggled during the first half to keep possession. Ian and Peter McCarthy were working hard in the middle of midfield as they broke up the play well which meant that our back four of David O’ Sullivan, Darren Lynch, Ruairi Kelly and John Moran were well protected. Up front Ger and Dano weren’t getting the best service but caused problems for the hosts when they did get the ball. We created a couple of half chances during the half but couldn’t convert and it was Kenmare that came closest to scoring from a corner but Sean Foley cleared off the line.

Thankfully the second half didn’t go the same way as the first and we settled quickly into our usual attacking stride with our wingers Bill Mullins and Chick wreaking havoc as they linked up with Ger and Dano. It was Ger that got us off the mark when he intercepted a goal kick and finished to the empty net. This relaxed us and we continued to play the hosts off the pitch as we introduced John Maher and Sean Allen from the bench. Ger then bagged his second when he was played through by Chick and finished low to the net. We kept pressing for more and could have had a penalty but for some dubious refereeing decisions, which only served to delay the inevitable as Bill found Dano in the box and he hit the net to round off the scoring.

Another good win away from home as we continue our push for promotion. Thanks to Inter Kenmare for a sporting, hard fought game.
