Asdee Rovers-0

Following on from last weeks hard fought win over Classic FC, our seniors emphatically triumphed against Asdee at Samphire Park last weekend. Despite the heavy rain last week the pitch was in decent knick as usual allowing both teams to play the ball on the ground with ease. We completely dominated possession from the off as our central midfielders Peter and Ian McCarthy looked to get on the ball and play forwards as much as possible. This allowed both wingers Klaudio Dema and Sean Foley to attack at will and they caused problems for the visitors as they linked up well with Dano and Ger up front. Despite all of our possession we couldn’t find the net as the visitors goalie was called into action several times. Our back four were comfortable throughout with Darren Lynch and Ruairi Kelly starting a lot of our good play thanks to clever distribution from Eoghan O Brien in goals. Our full backs Kieran O Mahony and John Moran were attacking at will as we kept the pressure on the Asdee goal. For a while it seemed like it would be one of those days where goals were hard to come by but this all changed midway through the half and we set about scoring five goals in the space of about 15 minutes. Dano opened the scoring after being set up by Ger and he got his second minutes later, finishing from close range. Our next attack saw Ger scoring his first when he finished low to the net and he grabbed his second straight from the kick off, stealing the ball from the visitors before beating a couple of defenders and finishing. Ger completed his hat trick shortly after, finishing again from close range.

The second half saw the introduction of Bill Mullins and John Maher- who was returning from injury- as we looked for more goals. To their credit Asdee didn’t give in easily and were harder to break down in the second period. We created chances but just couldn’t find a finish while Eoghan was called into action a couple of times at the other end of the pitch.

So, another good win at home- and a clean sheet- as we head into the Christmas break. Don’t forget the annual Samphires Quiz is on Sunday December 28th at The Tankard so make sure you’re all there!!
