U11’s grab an away draw

imageSamphires U11’s travelled to play Ballyhar last Saturday. In an open match where both sides had plenty of opportunities to win the game it ended in a 3-3 draw.
Fenit started brightly with some excellent midfield play, with Ben Donnellan finishing from some superb link up play between Eddie McCarthy and Dylan Ryan.
Our defence played well against a team with some good individual players. Our captain on the day Billy Walsh put in another excellent game and was supported with fine defending from Donnagh Murphy, David Dineen and John Joe Hanafin.
After conceding to Ballyhar we were awarded a penalty and Eddie McCarthy stepped up and scored to make it 2-1 at the break. The second half saw us being put under pressure by a strong and well organised Ballyhar team. Before too long we found ourselves 3-2 down. Some great support came from the subs bench as Tony Smyth, Tómas Godley, Josh Elvins, Ruairí Byrnes and Darragh McElligott made a strong impact when they got their chance. After some good support play from Rón O Neill and Paddy Falvey we began to push on and for the second time in the game and we were awarded a penalty as Ben Donnellan was fouled inside the area. The spot kick was saved by the excellent Ballyhar keeper.
With only a few minutes left in the game Dylan Ryan scored an excellent individual goal to rescue the draw. A last push from our boys wasn’t enough to take the win and some fine goal keeping from Gearóid O Connor kept it at a draw. At the final whistle a drawn match was probably a fair result between two well matched teams . Well done Samphires
