Seniors Continue Excellent League Form

Fenit v Dynamos

Denny Premier B

Killarney Celtic B-2

Fenit Samphires-3

Ger McCarthy, Ray Walsh, John Moran

Fenit’s seniors scraped a narrow win away to Killarney Celtic B at the weekend. Our performance wasn’t our best this season but in the end we battled through to pick up all three points. We did start brightly and had the majority of possession throughout the first half with our back four of Kieran O Mahony, Ruairi Kelly, Darren Lynch and John Moran starting most of our attacks with good build up play. As ever, Ger and Dano up front were threatening and we could have scored a few goals but for some questionable offside decisions- which may have been influenced by Celtic’s very animated manager/linesman. Our midfield four of Klaudio Dema, Sean Foley, Peter McCarthy and Ray Walsh were dominant all through the half and we looked most dangerous when we spread the ball wide. Ger Mac got us off the mark when he finished from close range after some good interplay between Klaudio and Kieran on the right side. Killarney pulled a goal back shortly after when they beat stand-in goalkeeper David O’ Sullivan with a decent free kick. Half time saw the teams at 1-1.

Our start to the second half was electric and we scored shortly after the restart when a neat passing move involving Peter and Ger ended with Ray Walsh finishing to the net. This spurred us on a bit as we continued to press for more goals and we got another when John Moran slotted home from close range. We should have been able to close the game out from here but Killarney refused to give in and responded quite well after the goals. Ian McCarthy played in goal for the second half and he made a couple of decent saves to keep us in the game. The home side pulled another goal back when they scored from a penalty which ensured a nervy finish to the game as we had to dig in to secure the win.

Although it wasn’t our best performance to date we managed to show enough resilience to claim the win which wasn’t happening for us last season. We play Classic FC in Fenit next Sunday morning and we’ll be looking for a much improved performance.
