U16s Win 4-1

The 16s recorded their first win of the season last weekend at home to the Park on a wet and windy November day. We played with the wind in the first half and had a lot of the play. The Park were dangerous on the counter but our defence of Ossie Clifford, Ciaran Murray, Alan McElligott and David Lenihan held firm. Christopher Murphy and Sean Donnellan in midfield dominated and set the platform for the win. Our first goal came after 20 minutes from a well driven free from about 30 yards by Sean which the keeper could only parry into the air. Their defence partially cleared but only to Cormac O’Brien who volleyed expertly onto the net. We scored again 5 minutes later through Christopher when he latched onto another rebound after some good pressure in their 6 yard box by forward Padraig Donnellan. It was 2 nil at the half but now we were against the wind and the Park came into it. We came under pressure at times in this half but again the defence were solid with keeper Brian O’Regan behind them handling and distributing well. On the wings we had Ciaran Carmody and  Ed Moynihan putting in the miles and showing no little skill. At times we took too much out of the ball losing possession and handing the initiative to the opposition. We had Christopher and Jack Lynch up front for much of this half and both combined well. Cormac and Sean in the middle set up many attacks and led to Chris scoring again 2 more times. The Park scored a goal in the final minutes of the game which their efforts deserved. Well done to both sets of players who served up a great game.
