17s Win In The Last Minute

The 17s made the journey to Listowel last Saturday for our first away league game. Apart from a strong wind which blew down the pitch onto the racecourse it wasn’t a bad day to play a game. As always the pitches were in pristine condition leading to a smashing game which we ended up winning 3-2. It was a fortuitous victory for us when maybe a draw might have been the fairer result. We played against the wind in the first half and did pretty well in general but we were not at our usual level. At different stages in the game we went through phases where we gave the ball away when usually we might keep it. The knock on effect was that Listowel had more of the ball than we would have liked and just on half time they scored after a few careless errors at the back. We conceded after 5 minutes into the second half, again after some very poor defending both in midfield and at the back. We usually up our game in a scenario such as this but for 15 minutes the heads were down and we could have ended up conceding a third. Crucially we didn’t and in the last 25 minutes our lads, after a reshuffle of positions on the pitch, got to grips with the situation. We took over the game for this portion of the game and made it count through Christopher Murphy, Sean Higgins and Oisin O’Brien. Best for us on the day were Christopher Murphy and Brian O’Regan. Well done to all on the day who showed the value of not giving up – The Squad on the day was: Brian O’Regan, Darren Chester , Antoin Stanton, Sean Donnellan, Alan McElligott, David Lenihan, John Dillane , Bobby O Regan, Christopher Murphy, Oisin O Brien, Sean Higgins, Ciaran Carmody, Thomas Lenihan
