17s Win In Castlegregory

The 17s team made the trip to Castlegregory last weekend in their quest for 3 more points in the league. We ended up  6 nil winners but it was not one of our better performances. Castlegregory made it tough for us and at times we found it hard to get the ball down and pass, but once we got 2 up at the end of the first half we relaxed and played some decent football. We probably had more of the ball in first half but some soft passing and tenacious defending meant we didn’t get a lot of chances. We did force a few half chances but nothing of note and perhaps the best chance of the first 30 minutes fell to Castle but the shot was ballooned over. After 35 minutes Thomas who was quiet up till this point played a smashing ball to Sean Higgins on the right and he swivelled and played a throughball to David Murphy who timed his run perfectly and he slotted past the advancing keeper. We added to this through Sean just on the stroke of half time after being set up by Gary Nolan who had a good game throughout. 2nd Half: – We had the advantage of the slight wind now at immediately went looking for the third and after only 5 minutes Thomas pounced  after the keeper failed to hold a Bobby O’Regan piledriver . We continued to press and added 3 more through Bobby and Thomas Dwyer twice. Another pleasing aspect was the clean sheet and the back 5 of Eoghan O’Brien, Jamie Hogan, Padraig O’Connor, Paul Nolan and Thomas Dwyer can be pleased with how they defended.Congratulations too to David Egan and David Murphy who both made their debuts with the senior team who drew with Ardfert in a typically tough local derby the following day
