Under 13s Unlucky in Killarney

Killarney Celtic 2-1 Fenit Samphires

On Saturday our under 13 team travelled to Killarney Celtics fine facility to face a strong Killarney side. The game was played in great spirit with both teams displaying some excellent passing football on Killarney Celtics carpet like all-weather pitch. The manner in which the game was played is a credit to both teams and shows the excellent work both clubs are doing at underage level. Both teams started the game lively with fenit having the majority of possession while celtic were always dangerous on the break. Keavinn mcelligott and dara heim were dominating proceedings in midfield and creating numerous chances for our ever dangerous strike force of cian donnelan and Edward stack. Unfortunately we failed to convert numerous chances and were punished 5 minutes from the half where celtic broke after a fenit corner and finished excellently into the fenit goal. Feeling aggrieved at the scoreline fenit came out of the traps at half time with great spirit and again loading the pressure on the celtic defence. The pressure finally paid off when excellent combination play from Edward stack and cian donnelan put cian through one on one where he finished with ease and adding to his very impressive scoring record for the season. At this point celtic made 5 substitutes bringing on players which massively boosted their side. This really evened up possession and this entertaining game looked like it could go either way. Celtic struck again and finished after a very well delivered corner was failed to be dealt with by the fenit defense. From here in heads didn’t drop and credit to the fenit side who pushed and pushed for the equaliser but were massively unfortunate with a few chances. Having hit the post and seeing an Edward stack chance cleared off the line it looked like it was not to be fenits day. Disappointing result but the performance must be applauded again showing the great strides this young side are taking and the rate at which they are improving individually and as a team.  Many thanks to Killarney for a hugely entertaining encounter.
