Seniors Lose Out To Late Goal

Denny Premier B

Tralee Dynamos-3

Fenit Samphires-2

Bill Mullins (2)

Early on Sunday morning we made the short trip to take on league leaders Tralee Dynamos. Despite the heavy rain over the last few weeks, Dynamos’ pitch was in great shape which suited both teams playing styles. For much of the first half we were on the defensive as Dynamos started brightly and kept possession well. Our back four of Kieran O’Mahony, John Maher, Darren Lynch and David O’Sullivan were excellent throughout as they repelled any attacks and restricted the Tralee side to very few clear cut chances. Up front, Ger McCarthy was holding the ball up well which allowed Bill Mullins, Daniel Clinton and James Sweeney to link up and cause some problems for the Dynamos defence. We created several chances during the half as we broke well on the counterattack, but we couldn’t hit the back of the net. It finished 0-0 at half time.

The second half started in much the same way as Dynamos continued to control possession, but we defended well as our midfield and back four kept their shape excellently. Dynamos took the lead after a cross into the area wasn’t cleared and they finished from close range. We reacted well to going behind and showed our resilience when Bill Mullins equalised after being put through down the left. Again Dynamos went looking for a winning goal and went 2-1 up after they finished from another cross into the box. Our determination once again came to the fore as we refused to let the game slip away from us. Bill scored his second goal of the game (his fifth in the last two games) following a wonderful counterattacking move. Kieran broke up an attack and played the ball into midfield where Ruairi Kelly and Peter McCarthy combined to find Ger up front. Ger played a superbly weighted through ball which Bill ran onto and lobbed the keeper with a clever finish. We added fresh legs with the introduction of Jack McCarthy and Darragh O’Shea and once again Dynamos came looking for a winner. They got it in the final minute when the ball broke in the box and was finished well.

It was an unlucky finish to the game as we showed great determination throughout and probably deserved to come away with at least a point. Thanks to referee, Stuart Templeman, and Tralee Dynamos for an entertaining, hard fought game.
