U16s Win Away In Cup

Our u16s played away to Killarney Athletic B in the Tucker Kelly Kerry U16 Cup last weekend and came away with a decisive 8-2 victory, Our opposition play in the division below us and last year when we were in that division we didn’t have it easy against them. But in this match we were well on top all through and our team played some good stuff especially in the first three quarters of the game. It was obvious from the start that we were getting great joy down the left through the combination of Bobby O’Regan, Sean Higgins and Oisin O’Brien all of whom are going from strength to strength. These 3 contributed 6 of the 8 goals with Oisin netting 4. Sean’s partner up front, Ciaran Carmody was central to a lot of what we did well as he continually linked play and set up his teammates in better positions with clever 1 and 2 touch play. We scored our opener after 5 minutes with Thomas Lenihan setting Sean up with a clever pass, he got it on to Oisin who went through their defence to score. Unbelievably we conceded when one of our opponents scythed through our midfield and defence pretty much unchallenged. But from here till half time it was one way traffic and it was 4 -1 at the half. It would have been more if not for some rushed finishing and poor timing in the box but we were creating chances regularly. 2nd Half – We continued to dominate with Oisin on the left, Chris on the right, Bobby and Thomas in the middle creating many openings for themselves and Ciaran and Sean up front. At the back we were quite solid with Antoin Stanton and Sean Donnellan in the centre denying space and David Lenihan and Cormac O’Brien at right and left back both starting many attacks. Brian O’Regan in goals did what was required, communicating with his defence and distributing well. Henry Downing came on with half an hour to go in defence and his strength and positioning denied Athletic on more than one occasion. Our scorers in this half were Cormac O Brien, Christopher Murphy and Oisin with another 2. Well played to everyone to everyone on the day.
