The 16s Bow Out Of National Cup In Charleville

Last week we travelled to Charleville to play the locals in the U16 National Cup. They had won their first round game 11 nil so we knew it would be tough and tough it was as we eventually lost 8-5 in a game with everything. We didn’t play well in the first half and failed to impose ourselves to any great extent and went in 3-1 down. We felt we  didn’t get the breaks and conceded a very soft penalty after Brian O’Regan dived bravely at the feet of an opposing forward and won the ball but the ref saw something else and to compound matters gave Brian a yellow card after pointing to the spot. But you make your own luck and we didn’t perform in the first half which was the most disappointing thing. We improved in the second half and did very well offensively but conceded too easily. We got it to 3-2 and then both teams scored every second goal until the last 10 minutes when we threw everything into the attack and even though we hit the bar and had a number of chances to narrow the gap it was Charleville that scored 2 late ones to finish the game.Final score Charleville 8 Fenit Samphires 5  – our scorers were Sean Higgins(3) and Christopher Murphy(2)
