U16s Lose But Show Signs Of Improvement

Our Under 16s lost at home to Killarney Athletic on a score of 4-2 last weekend in a very high paced match. The pace of things in this division is something we’re still coming to terms with and it wasn’t till the second half in this match that we got to the level required. Our keeper, Brian O’Regan pulled off a couple of top drawer saves to keep us in the game in the first half but at the other end we missed a penalty after Sean Higgins was taken down after a scything run through their defence. In the second half we welcomed Jack MacCarthy back after injury and his strength was a boost for us. None of our lads could be faulted for effort and each of our players improved his performance from the first game. Even though we found ourselves 4 down after 10 minutes in the second half, which was a bit harsh on us, we pulled our socks up and dominated the rest of the game with Christopher Murphy scoring twice including a terrific header between 2 defenders. Unfortunately we couldn’t force a third but we showed that in that last half hour with our opponents not having dropped their intensity, that we have the ability to compete at this level.
