The Draw Specialists

Our Under 16 team finished their season unbeaten in the league after yet another one all draw against Ballyhar in Fenit last week in an evening fixture. We played with the aid of the strong breeze in the first half into the goals on the western end of the pitch. Overall we felt we were on top throughout and probably deserved a victory but credit to Ballyhar for forcing a draw in the end in their quest for the top spot in the league. Ironically enough, the other team in the hunt to be champions, Castleisland, lost their only game so far to our lads 2 months ago but we failed to capitalise on this and have drawn too many matched since. In goals Eoghan O’Brien had no real save to make and his progress to being a top keeper has come on a pile this season especially his ability to get his defence organised. In front of him we started Jack Kelliher and Dylan Ronan in the centre of defence and these 2 gelled well as a pair. Our 2 full backs, Jamie Hogan and Padraig O’Connor had a busy evening with tricky wide players but both did very well again for us. It is great to see these 2 now getting on the ball, starting attacks and getting forward supporting us offensively. David Egan and Jack McCarthy in the centre of the pitch were full of energy, drove us on and broke up many attacks. Thomas Dwyer wide on the left put in a good shift and was up and down the pitch throughout; his team mate on the right was Sean Higgins who contributed his customary attack-minded performance creating a number of chances for us. Up front Cian MacGarry and David Murphy have formed a good partnership over the last couple of matches and forced the opposition defence into a reargurd action for most of the match. We introduced Thomas Lenihan, Antoin Stanton and Bobby O’Regan for a few lads who tired and all looked the part. Our score on the night came from Sean Higgins with a smashing free. We conceded from a corner late on and try as we did we could not force a winner. But well done to all the lads who represented us this season, they never gave less than 100% and attendance and attitude at training has been tops.
