Under 16s Draw Again In Thriller

Our 16s played a midweek fixture last Tuesday away to Park B in Tralee in our second last league fixture. It ended up 4-4 with both teams having periods of superiority and periods where defending was lax. Our season was encapsulated in this match where all our strengths and weaknesses were on show. On the one hand when we play with intensity we can dominate games and create chances, on the other when we drop our levels we concede chances. The game was played at a good pace and it was a good contest. Our opponents were on the up early on and scored twice in quick succession after 10 minutes when we really had chances to clear. We upped it from here and contested well throughout the pitch and gradually worked our way back into the game. This got Cian MacGarry and David Murphy up front more involved and these 2 combined well with centre midfielders David Egan and Thomas Lenihan so as the half wore on we became more dangerous and created a number of chances. One move in particular started by keeper Eoghan O’Brien who played it to Jamie Hogan on the left. Jamie quickly transferred it to Cian MacGarry who had come deep on the left. He bounced a one two off Thomas and on receiving the return he beat his opponent and played a superb diagonal ball to Sean Higgins who had made a superb run down the right. He shot but the Park defence got a block in and conceded a corner. The resultant corner from Bobby O’Regan wasn’t cleared and Cian toe poked it out of the crowd to his striking partner David who finished to make it 2-1 at the half. We bombed on from here in the second half and were dominant for the first 30 minutes and created many chances with some fantastic interplay. The Park were dangerous on the counter and we were stretched at times to keep them out. Eoghan had to pull off a miraculous save at one point when a shot seemed destined for the top corner but somehow he kept it out. The back 4 of Padraig O’Connor, Dylan Ronan, Jack McCarthy and Jamie Hogan held their line well throughout and set the tone for the rest of the team with their tough tackling. We scored 3 goals in this 30 minute period through David Murphy (again), Cian MacGarry and a superb team effort involving 5 players culminating with a trademark scorcher from David Egan which nearly burst the net. We came under the cosh for the last 10 minutes and our opponents scored twice once from a corner and one from another shot from distant which was into the top corner but Eoghan couldn’t quite get to it. So another draw but quite a good performance by our lads. Well done again to all who played on the night.
