Under 15s Win In Kenmare

The Samphires under 15 team were in a wintry Kenmare last Saturday to play our second league match of the season. We travelled at full strength to a venue where we came a cropper last season in the cup and we were hoping to atone for that disaster. Right from the start we brought our ‘A’ game and by half time were 5-1 up and in truth it could have been more. The back 4 of Sean,Antoin,Padraig and Cormac were solid and with Thomas in particular probing from the centre and Dara able to get in behind them on the right wing we created 3 chances in the first 10 minutes before Christopher eventually finished a cross into the net.Jack scored a header from a corner to make it 2 after 15 minutes and scored a free almost immediately from 30 yards after his shot flew through a crowd of bodies past their unsighted keeper. Sean scored a penalty after a handball and Oisin made it 5 on the halftime whistle when he finished well at the back post. After a severe dressing down at half time Kenmare took the game to us in the second half and put us under pressure. They scored straight from a corner after 5 minutes and it was a bad goal for us to concede. We responded immediately and after a smashing cross from Oisin, Dara was on hand to finish. For the next 10 minutes we were on the back foot and conceded 2 goals as a result of their good play and one or two of our lads believing the game was over and so weren’t helping out as they should. At times it was down to Brian in goals to keep them. And at 6-3 up we conceded a penalty for a handball on the line but they missed and with that so too was their chance of a massive comeback. We pushed on from here to create many chances and scored 2 through Dara again and the irrepressible Henry who chested into the net after a blockbuster by Jack came back off the bar.A bit of a Jeckyll and Hyde performance by us but a good win nevertheless. All the subs(Henry Downing,Ciaran Carmody and Daithi Lenihan)were introduced just after Kenmare missed the penno in the middle of the second half and again gave us a new lease of life and more than contributed to the victory. Thanks also to the Kenmare club who were hospitable as always and their pitch was in terrific shape somehow after the recent spell of poor weather.
