Under 15s Lose Out To Broadford

Last weekend our Under 15s made their exit from the National Cup at home to a well drilled and skilful Broadford team from the Desmond League suffering a 5-1 defeat. It was a game that showed us that if we are not going to defend with attitide then we will not be successful on the pitch or on the scoreboard. In truth we played every bit as well as our opponents in general play after we went 3-1 behind in the first 15 minutes. We could also claim that we didn’t get the rub of the green regarding some refereeing decisions but we can only hold ourselves to blame when we examine the goals we conceded. 2 of the goals were from corners where we failed to clear our lines properly, another from an unwillingness to track a run into our box and their final goal from a pass from one of our defenders. We started under pressure but scored through Sean Higgins on the break after 5 minutes. Our opponents imposed their game on us for 10 minutes and we conceded 3 goals which were poor from our point of view. From then on we were very good and created many oppurtunities but in contrast to our defending we were always under pressure when we were shooting. That said we had 2 claims for a penalty and a goal disallowed mysteriously that might have changed the course of the game. The second continued in the vein as put more pressure on but we couldn’t force the breakthrough. With 10 minutes to go they scored on the break to finish the game as a contest. Brian O’Regan in goals,Padraig O’Mahony in defence and Jack McCarthy were our best players on the day.
