U13s Unlucky Against Park

Last Saturday we travelled into Tralee to play the Park in our second last league fixture. It was a very even game throughout with both teams showing great levels of skill. We edged the earlier part of the game and had the Park under pressure through great work by Eoghan McElligott and Sean Donnellan in the middle and Jason Mortimer and David Lenihan raiding on the wings. Up front Ossie Clifford had a fine game, brought his teammates into the game every time he got possession and his striking partner Christopher Murphy caused their defence many problems with his pace. Despite this we failed to capitalise and it was the Park who scored first after they broke well down our left and switched the ball to an unmarked player who put the ball beyond Brian O’Regan in goals who had narrowed the angle as best he could. We pushed on then and were rewarded when Eoghan scored a piledriver after some great initial work at left back by Padraig O’Mahony who set Jason on his way on the left wing. He rounded his man, drew the centre back, passed to Christopher who laid the ball back to Eoghan 25 yards out. 2nd Half It was as you were as both teams pushed on looking for the second and both teams created chances but failed to capitalise until eventually Park scored a goal by a player who appeared to us to be a good deal offside. Nevertheless we responded well driven on from the back by Ciaran Carmody, Ciaran Murray and Sean Mortimer but push as we did we just couldn’t seem to find a goal and in the last few minutes we conceded another. We must mention as well substitute Cian Donnellan who was excellent when introduced. These lads have had a tough season but have kept their shoulder to the wheel and can move forward confidently. Well done to all on the day.
