Kenmare U14s 2 Samphires U14s 1

Our under 14 team made the long journey to Kenmare in the cup last weekend. Unfortunately we went down 2-1 to the home team and we can’t have any gripes as we only have ourselves to blame. Our opponents played with more hunger and if we don’t match other teams in this department we will always come up short. Kenmare started the better and had us under pressure and this combined with some skilful players on the wing they forced a few half chances but with the injured Jack McCarthy in goals playing very well we weathered the storm. After the first 15 minutes we came into the game and started to force a few chances ourselves. Eventually Fionan Mackessy won a header in the middle of the park, it fell to Eoghan McElligott who played a clever through ball to the onrushing Sean Higgins who rounded the keeper and we were in the lead. The rest of the half was evens and we retained the lead till half time. In the second half we started well and probably should have gone 2 up but didn’t take our chances and in a reverse of the first half it was Kenmare that now came into the game and equalised deservedly itmust be said. With 10 minutes to go we conceded a bad goal from a corner and were unable to force an equaliser. Best for us on the day was Jack in goals and Sean Mortimer. Many thanks too to the parents who made the trip to support us.
