U13s Unfortunate Against Listowel

Last weekend our 13s hosted high flying Listowel in the league. Our lads have improved hugely recently and the match reflected this. The game was pretty even throughout but we went in at half time 1 down. The main reason for this was that we are not as clinical in front of goal as the other premier teams and we had as many chances but didn’t convert which has been our achilles heel all year. At the other end our lads defended well and restricted Listowel to a minimum of chances. Indeed it took a shot high into the net to beat Brian O’Regan in goals who played well throughout. In front of him Eoghan McElligott and Sean Mortimer were excellent ably supported by Padraig O Mahony and Ciaran Carmody who guarded the flanks. In midfield Christopher Murphy and Cormac O’Brien matched their opponents and created many attacks for us.David Lenihan and Jason Mortimer on the wings ran and ran and gave us a great outlet when we were in trouble. UpĀ front Liam O’Donnell was impressive and the busy Sean Donnellan hounded their defence throughout. At the start of the second half we conceded a second after a good move by Listowel but after this our lads responded and we produced attack after attack. Eventually Liam was felled in the box after Ciaran Murray had put him through and Eoghan duly converted with an expertly taken penalty into the corner. Then with 3 minutes to go Eoghan attacked down the wing and rounded their defence and proceeded to round their keeper only to then hear the ref pull him back to give him a free out the field – a most unfortunate error by the ref. Our lads were deflated for a few minutes and Listowel went up the field to score a third to put a gloss on the scoreline. But a big well done to our lads. Keep it up. Thanks as well to the parents who supported us.
