U13’s – Premier League – 7th Jan 2012 – Ballyhar vs Fenit Samphires

On Saturday 7th Jan 2012 we travelled to Ballyhar for our first game of the New Year. The final score line of 4 – 0 to Ballyhar does not truly reflect the game. Throughout the match Fenit played superbly in all positions & were firmly in control of the general play. In doing so created at least 10 to 15 clear cut chances on goal, from free kicks to through balls & shots on goal. However it was one of those days where the ball would not enter the opponents net. This combined with some strong defending & very good goal keeping by Ballyhar. On the other hand our keeper Brian had very little to do as Ballyhar were finding it difficult to breach our fine defence. However four unfortunate mistakes during the match including the first, a hand ball & penalty allowed Ballyhar to take advantage against the run of play in the first half. Half way through the second half we gave away an unnecessary free kick which was lobbed over our defence & picked up by their striker who was a little more alert to the loose ball. The final few minutes any hope of a comeback disintegrated when we failed to clear the ball & allowed Ballyhar in to score two soft goals to make the final score 4 – 0. Unlucky lads you definitely deserved at least a point from this game. If we can continue to play as well as this & be more positive & fortunate in front of goal then better results will follow. Fenit squad were, Eoghan McElligott, Christopher Murphy, Sean Donnellan, Padraig O’Mahony, Sean Mortimer (Captain), Jason Mortimer, Cormac O’Brien, Brian O’Regan, Liam O’Donnell, Ciaran Murray & Ciaran Carmody.
