U15s beat Kingdom Boys B

Samphires Under 15s played host to Kingdom Boys B last Sat inĀ  Div 1 of the league. We won the game 6-1 but a few late goals put a nice gloss on the result for us. We played in fits and starts and we have to admit to playing second fiddle for periods in the game. Our opponents had a combination of big strong physical players and a few smaller knacky players and we had to be on our game to cope. The first 15 minutes was pretty even with both teams probing for a weakness but both defended well. At the back Eoghan was very safe and Bobby and John O at centre backs intercepted all the through balls that were played in the direction of our goals. In addition they started attack after attack with their coolness on the ball and perceptive passing. Indeed some of Bobby’s long passes were of the highest quality. At right and left back Padraic and Antoin complemented their centre backs, covered them when required and acted as conduits for the ball as we got it from back to front. After about 20 minutes we started to dominate for a period and created a few chances but due to good goalkeeping and poor finishing we missed a number of chances. Eventually the inevitable happened and Cian set Thomas up to give us the lead when he played him in with a clever through ball. He repeated the dose in the 30th minute when he outstripped the opposition on the wing and squared for Thomas to steal in again for a tap-in. On 35 Cian himself scored after being set up by Gordon from midfield who had a fine game throughout. We then had to weather some pressure till half-time but we restricted our opponents to a number of half chances. For the first 15 minutes of the second half it was all Kingdom Boys and we shipped some heavy pressure. We conceded a few frees but some brave heading at the back kept them at bay but after 15 minutes we conceded a penalty when the ball struck an outstretched arm in our box. Fortunately for us they hit the bar with a rocket of a shot and we got away with it, but 2 minutes later we conceded when our defence were caught flat for maybe the only time in the match and their penalty taker made up for his earlier miss with a cool finish. This spurred us in to action and Jack Mac,Sean,Gordon and Jimmy re-established dominance around the middle. Jimmy and Jack combined well on the left and set Cian up for his second and a 4th for us. By this stage we had rejigged things with the experiencd Jamie at left full and Antoin and Cian in midfield we stopped many of their attacks before they could become dangerous. In the final few minutes Sean scored after Jack played the pass of the day when he found his teammate at the back post and he did the rest. David Egan finished off proceedings with an opportunist goal which was no less than he deserved after another polished performance. Well done to all and we hope to get back to full strength in the New Year for the second half of the campaign.
