Under 15s win in Killorglin

Last Saturday our 15s played away to Killorglin B in the league. Apart from the initial mist it was a smashing day for a game on a perfect surface. Both teams started well and in the first 15 minutes both teams had some periods of possession and there were some fine passages of play from both teams which was a feature of the whole game. After 15 minutes Cian up front showed his class when scoring with a delightful chip after outpacing the opposition defence and we were one up. He repeated the dose 5 minutes later and we looked comfortable. Both of Cian’s goals came about as a result of tackles won in midfield by Jack and Mark. Killorglin kept going with their passing game which caused us trouble throughout and were rewarded in the 25th minute with a shot from the edge of the box which eluded Eoghan in goals who despite this had a good game. We responded when our other centre forward Sean did his stuff in the 32nd and 36th minute when he beat the defence and scored from acute angles against a good Killorglin keeper. In the second Cian finished the game as a contest with a super dink over the advancing keeper after outpacing the opposition when running onto a throughball from Padraig on the right. We brought on 3 subs at this stage-Gordon, Thomas and new signing David Egan- and the great thing from our point of view was that our performance didn’t dip from here on but got better if anything. Our midfield did suffer a loss in intensity for 10 minutes though and we conceded from a shot from the edge of the box again and immediately they played through us and they earned a penalty which would have made it 5-3 if they had converted but our luck was in, they hit the bar and we cleared. For the rest of the game we played well with the 3 subs to the fore and David Egan celebrated his debut for us with a brace after some good work from Thomas and Bobby. We must also mention the performance of our defence of David, Jamie, John O and our other new player Eric Leen who were solid throughout.
