Samphires U14s v Kingdom Boys Premier Div Sat Oct 8th

We played host to Kingdom Boys last weekend in our second league match of the season. Last season’s league runners-up had beaten us comfortably twice last season so our lads needed to be committed from the start. We started well enough and were competing well around the field. Our back 5 of Cormac in goals, Dara, Antóin, Bobby and new boy Eric on the right were all doing well. After 15 minutes we were on the attack when Kingdom countered, we failed to clear and conceded. This rocked us back and we conceded a second almost immediately. But we were doing well in possession and when Jack and Eoghan pushed on in midfield we got a hold on the game and after some clever play by Sean up front Oisín hit a cracker and got it back to 2-1. After some more pressure Bobby found Oisín from a corner and he scored his second to level. We then conceded a harsh free at the edge of our box and a super strike made it 3-2 at the half to the visitors. In the second half Kingdom upped the tempo and from another free near our box they made it 4. We had difficulty retaining possession up front and from the resultant pressure they scored another. But whereas before where some of our lads might have given up a little bit we kept on going and gave as good as we got and the scoreline ended 6-3. Well done to all the lads who played today, especially to new lads Eric and Fionán who showed they will be great additions to our squad.
